I have about $5000 in credit card debt (between 4 cards). How do I go about settling with each debtor for a % of the total amount owed on each card. Since it is tax time I just want to get rid of this debt and start fresh. Would settling bring up my credit score any? I need help? What would be the best way rid this debt!!!
I recently lost my job to downsizing.

At what point does the statute of limitations wear out in the state of TN when trying to collect a debt. I ran up credit cards in desperation during a divorce and haven’t been able to afford to pay them back. Now I’m being sued to pay the money owed….I make $10.00 an hour and have 1 child still at home. Also, could they garnish my wages making this little amount of money?

The option to go to a fantastic university is available to me, but I frankly can’t afford it neither can my parents. I’m considering taking out student loans but afraid that I might collect a large debt that I won’ be able to pay off in the future.

Would it just be better if I go to a CC instead? Will it look bad on my resume/transcript if do? Which do you think is the better option in the long term?

Why is this possible. It’s like it will never go away. A 10 year old debt came back from the dead recently. It is crazy. 10 years ago. I’d like to move on with my life now and just when you feel comfortable again another collection agency buys your debt and starts all that crap again. I will never work for a collection agency.
that is what i’m affrain of. if you settle with this new collection company that bought the debt from the old company, who’s to say it will ever come off your credit report. does not sound legit to me. or maybe some other agency will buy it and they start calling after i settle with some other company. do people really pay and settle and what does it do for the indivdual that has it bad on the credit report. then again some may have so much new credit and good credit it may not even matter.

I’m going thru a divorce & learning of thousands of dollars in collection & more that are delinquent & on there way to a collection. Yesterday I learned of a credit card company that will settle for a % of the debt. I contacted this company & informed them that I have never applied for a credit card in my life. They had all of the personal info on me needed to apply for a credit card. I have a feeling that my soon to be ex applied for & received a card in my name. They informed me to go to the police dept. & fill out a fraud/identity theft form. Is this the correct action to take? I had trusted that my ex was taking care of our finances but apparently she wasn’t. I will probably have to file bankruptcy. Should I do this after our divorce is final and the debts are divided or file together with my ex, before the divorce is final? I obviously want to know ALL of my debt that is out there. How do I go about finding this out? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
