My wife divorced me about 14 months after we decided it would be best that I go work overseas to get us out of debt and build us a better future. We have 2 little girls together. We had a good relationship, or so I thought. Roughly four months after she divorced me, she remarried. She makes things very tough on me when it comes to seeing or speaking to my girls. As of now, I’m still overseas because she left me in so much debt after the divorce, but I come home on vacation every 4 months. It’s almost impossible to see my girls. I can only see them at her mom’s house, and that is only when her mom can manage it between her two jobs. If it wasn’t for her mom, I don’t think I would ever get to see them. I scheduled one vacation so I could be there for my 4yo’s birthday party, but once I got back to town I was told I wasn’t allowed to come. She said “you don’t need to be at my family functions. It’s just weird, nobody does that.” When I call from overseas to talk to them, I can hardly ever get anyone to answer. I used to just speak to the girls on the answering machine just to say “hey, it’s daddy. I love you.” They finally pulled the machine out so now it just rings when I call. She won’t send me pictures of them or show them pictures of me. In fact, she threw out every photo she had of me. I’ll be going home for good in a few months and I just know she’s gonna make life hell on me. I always pay my child support in full and on time. I just don’t understand why she is like this. I didn’t do anything to her for her to be vindictive. I never cheated or beat her or the girls. I actually like being a daddy and want to be there for my kids. We have joint custody of the girls so I know she can’t keep them from me, but when I get home for good, I really didn’t want to have to get the courts involved and have a third party step in to make the rules for the both of us. It’s seems like, for now, that’s just what I’m going to have to do. Can any body tell me what they think her problem is and how I can fix it without having to drag this all through a courtroom?
Let me add, I do share joint custody with her, but when I’m only home on a two week vacation, I don’t want to make any waves and take a chance on losing what little time I DO get with them. Anybody who has ever had to deal with the courts knows you can’t even get a court date set in two weeks, much less anything else. I haven’t been home long enough to go to court about anything. I signed the divorce papers that her attorney mailed me and just sent them back. I was just foolish enough to believe her when she said she wouldn’t give me a hard time with the girls. The failed marriage isn’t any issue to me. For God’s sake, I certainly don’t want her back. I agree with the one person that said there is something else to all of this, I just don’t know what it is.
We do have set visitation rules as well. Basic visitation such as who has them on weekends, holidays, summer vacation, etc., etc. I could have even stopped the divorce by law since I am a govt contractor working on a military installation under the same laws that protect soldiers from being shredded apart by their wives back home. I didn’t want to drag this all through a courtroom to end up fight over inanimate objects. As long as we could agree to joint custody and fair visitation, I had no reason to hold on to anything else. My mistake was trusting that she would do the right thing knowing how much my kids mean to me.

No it didnt work in the 1930′s Roosevelts Domestic Policies where a disaster. I’m not stating this for political reasons. I dont care about politics. It’s a fact though. WWII bailed him out with the likes of Lend/Lease Program. He was a horrible Domistic Prez. but a Gr8 Wat Time Prez.
